Difference Between the Pilots Association, Industrial Unions, and Occupational Unions

Pilots Association

A non-profit civil organization composed of individuals or groups aiming to promote culture, academics, fellowship, and social services. The Association is committed to enhancing civil aviation safety and the professional competence of airline pilots. It actively participates in the activities of the International Federation of Air Line Pilots' Associations (IFALPA), engaging in international aviation affairs and conferences to strengthen members' skills and knowledge.

Industrial Union

An industrial union consists of workers from different occupations within the same industry. For example, an industrial union formed within an airline company is open to all employees, regardless of their specific job roles. The main purpose is to protect labor rights, improve worker knowledge, promote production development, and enhance workers’ quality of life.

Occupational Union

An occupational union is composed of workers from the same profession, regardless of which company they work for. For example, the Taipei Pilots Occupational Union is open to all pilots across different airlines. It is not affiliated with any particular company and focuses on collective bargaining, employment counseling, labor dispute mediation, and the protection of workers' rights.
